Canadian Music Royalty Fee
Effective March 1, 2010, the Canadian Music Royalty Fee will be added to subscriber invoices. Additional details about the Canadian Music Royalty Fee are provided below.
1. What is the Canadian Music Royalty Fee?
The Canadian Music Royalty Fee offsets the copyright tariffs that SIRIUS Canada has now begun paying artists and songwriters for the use of their music on SIRIUS Satellite Radio.
2. Where does the Canadian Music Royalty Fee go?
The Canadian Music Royalty Fee is used to directly offset the tariffs that SIRIUS Canada now pays to the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN), the Neighbouring Rights Collective of Canada (NRCC), the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (CMRRA) and the Society for Reproduction Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers in Canada (SODRAC).
3. What is the cost of the Canadian Music Royalty Fee?
The cost of the Canadian Music Royalty Fee is currently less than one dollar per month for primary subscriptions and 75 cents per month for secondary subscriptions. The Canadian Music Royalty Fee is calculated at 6% of the price of your SIRIUS subscription.
4. When will the Canadian Music Royalty Fee be charged?
SIRIUS Canada subscribers will see the Canadian Music Royalty Fee added to their total bill on subscriptions renewing after March 1, 2010. The Canadian Music Royalty Fee is a re-occurring fee added only on the subscription renewal date.
5. I pay my subscription monthly, will I see this fee applied each month?
Yes. Since your subscription renews each month the Canadian Music Royalty Fee will be added to your total bill payment each month.
6. Can I avoid paying the Canadian Music Royalty Fee?
Yes. Current subscribers can delay paying the Canadian Music Royalty Fee by renewing their subscription(s) for 1, 2 or 3 year terms before March 1, 2010. By renewing before March 1, 2010 subscribers will delay the Canadian Music Royalty Fee for the duration of the next term that they choose.
